Information about the heritage feast did go home this past Friday.  Please return at your convenience.  Upcoming this week will be a chorus performance on Tuesday night.  Students will not have homework on this night as we do have a number of students who are in the chorus concert.

Please remember that it is conference week these coming two weeks and that students will be dismissed at 1:30 each day.

Language Arts
We continue to read from Island of the Blue Dolphins.  A couple of skills that have been worked on include sequencing and recognizing similes and metaphors. We've also been working on responding to literature through discussion questions/study guides that help us understand this selection.

This week, attached to the updates was a theme skills test result for theme 2.  We will continue with our HM series this week starting the next theme,

A student record incluing the HM series and student's independent reading will be shared at conference time.

Math

We have been continuing to work with long division and have continued to explore the relationship between multiplication and division.  Keep up those math facts!

Science
Participation in the science fair will be mandatory for our class.  This will be discussed in class this week with sample projects shown to the students.  We will also conduct an experiment as a class, so that students will have a better understanding of the scientific method and what is expected for the project.  There will be an oral presentation of the project as well.  The first due date on the timeline will be the student proposal sheet which will be due the early part of January.  There is a link on the class website that can help in further understanding the process.

Science tests were returned this week. Our next unit will be with electricity and magnetism, chapters 6 and 7 within the book.  There will be many more hands on lessons with these chapters.

Social Studies
Some of the student choice menu activities have been posted on the side wall.  Attached to next week's update will be the scoring sheet that will show how many points that were earned from the project.  Minimum of six was required.  We will be learning about Early California and in chapter 3, Exploration and Early Settlements. As part of this chapter, we will start learning the songs for our next play, California Missions and More
